Understanding SDGs and Their 17 Goals

Have you ever heard of SDGs? SDGs stands for Sustainable Development Goals, a global commitment agreed upon by 193 countries, including Indonesia, to create a better future for everyone.

The SDGs consist of 17 goals and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030. These goals are interconnected and inseparable. Here are the 17 SDG goals:

1. No Poverty

The first goal is to end poverty in all its forms everywhere. Poverty is seen as the inability to meet minimum basic needs for a decent and dignified life. The government measures poverty from an economic perspective using a monetary approach.

2. Zero Hunger

The second goal is to end hunger and ensure access for all people to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food year-round, especially for the poor and vulnerable, including infants.

3. Good Health and Well-Being

The third goal focuses on good health and well-being, with indicators such as the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), which measures deaths related to pregnancy per 100,000 live births.

4. Quality Education

The fourth goal is to ensure inclusive and quality education for all, with assessments of basic competencies such as reading literacy and mathematical literacy through the National Assessment (AN).

5. Gender Equality

The fifth goal is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. This includes addressing violence against women, which remains a major issue in many countries.

6. Clean Water and Sanitation

The sixth goal is to ensure availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all. This includes safe and adequate drinking water services and efficient water management.

7. Affordable and Clean Energy

The seventh goal is to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. This includes improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy.

8. Decent Work and Economic Growth

The eighth goal is to promote sustained economic growth and decent work for all. For example, Regal Springs Indonesia has significantly contributed to this by employing over 2,100 local workers and driving economic growth in Indonesia.

9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

The ninth goal is to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.

10. Reduced Inequality

The tenth goal is to reduce inequality within and among countries. This includes empowerment and increased social, economic, and political inclusion for all, regardless of differences.

11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

The eleventh goal is to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

12. Responsible Consumption and Production

The twelfth goal is to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. This includes efficient use of resources and reducing waste.

13. Climate Action

The thirteenth goal is to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing resilience to disasters.

14. Life Below Water

The fourteenth goal is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.

15. Life on Land

The fifteenth goal is to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. This includes sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation.

16. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

The sixteenth goal is to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.

17. Partnerships for the Goals

The seventeenth goal is to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
