Toba (9/05) Regal Springs Indonesia (PT Aqua Farm Nusantara) recently welcomed a visit from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and IPB University to its operational areas, including processing plant, hatchery, feedmill in Serdang Bedagai Regency, and tilapia farming sites in Toba & Samosir Regency, on May 7-8, 2024.
This visit reaffirms Regal Springs Indonesia’s commitment to advocating responsible and sustainable tilapia aquaculture operations to produce the best and highest-quality protein sources.
Rudolf Hoeffelman, President Director of Regal Springs Indonesia, expressed gratitude for the visit, stating, “We are highly optimistic about the future, and the transformation of the blue food can provide solutions to global food security through the potential of existing resources, including sustainable fisheries,” he said.
Furthermore, Hoeffelman emphasized his hope that this visit and discussion would serve as a positive start to a strategic collaboration between Regal Springs Indonesia, FAO, and IPB University.
Rajendra Aryal, FAO Representative for Indonesia and Timor Leste, appreciated the efforts made by Regal Springs Indonesia. “The concept of the blue economy should be considered as a priority to achieving food security. Blue food plays a crucial role in reducing hunger and malnutrition and contributing to sustainable food systems transformation in Indonesia,” Aryal explained.
During the visit, the FAO & IPB University delegation observed the natural process of tilapia hatchery, visited tilapia processing facilities, lake water quality monitoring laboratory, and toured the tilapia farming cages.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Fredinan Yulianda, M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at IPB University, highlighted the importance of adopting the latest technology, improving human resource skills, and maintaining harmony with nature in achieving integrated fisheries cultivation.
“IPB will play a scientific role through internship, joint research & publication,” Fredinan said.
