Getting to Know and Understanding the 5 Pillars of the Stunting Reduction Acceleration Team Program of the Republic of Indonesia

Introducing TP2AK

The Stunting Reduction Acceleration Team (TP2AK) was formed to support the implementation of the National Strategy for Accelerating Stunting Reduction under the coordination of the Deputy for Policy Support for Human Development, Secretariat of the Vice President (Setwapres) of the Republic of Indonesia.

TP2AK’s task is to ensure the synchronization of national, local, and community programs with a multisectoral approach through program convergence at all levels, based on the Five Pillars of Stunting Prevention.

Five Pillars of Stunting Prevention

Pillar 1: Commitment and Vision of the Highest Leadership

The first pillar aims to ensure that stunting prevention becomes a priority for the government at central, regional, and village levels. The commitment and vision of the President and Vice President regarding the acceleration of stunting prevention are maintained and followed up through policy and strategy coordination. This pillar includes increasing commitment and leadership vision in ministries/agencies, regional governments, and villages. The involvement of various parties such as businesses, universities, media, and community organizations is also emphasized.

Pillar 2: National Campaign and Behavioral Change Communication

The second pillar aims to increase public awareness and understanding and to encourage behavioral changes to prevent stunting. National campaigns and behavioral change communication are conducted through various media forms, interpersonal communication, continuous advocacy to decision-makers, and capacity building for program managers. This pillar is coordinated by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

Pillar 3: Convergence, Coordination, and Consolidation of Central, Regional, and Village Programs

The third pillar aims to strengthen convergence through the coordination and consolidation of programs and activities at the central, regional, and village levels. Convergence is carried out by aligning planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and controlling cross-sectoral activities as well as between levels of government and the community. This pillar is coordinated by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Pillar 4: Nutrition and Food Security

The fourth pillar aims to improve access to nutritious food and promote food security. This pillar includes strengthening policies for fulfilling the nutritional and food needs of the community, including family food and nutrition fulfillment, providing food aid and supplementary food, and developing food products and safety. This pillar is coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Health.

Pillar 5: Monitoring and Evaluation

The fifth pillar aims to enhance monitoring and evaluation as the basis for ensuring quality service delivery, increasing accountability, and accelerating learning. A results-based monitoring and evaluation system helps the government build a strong knowledge base, encourages changes in program implementation methods, and improves performance. This pillar is coordinated by Bappenas and Setwapres.
